Who is this happy guy? Phillip Pruitt, 2009 subject of Elad Lassry. 'Lassry, a Los Angeles-based artist, exhibits his works un-specifically, and often without differentiating by media; he'll even match the frame to a prevailing color in the image to create a happy retro-period uniformity, and to stress the unity of the image and the sculpture-like container.'

Artist of the day: If you are not familiar with Takashi Murakami, you should be. As far as contemporary artists go, he is probably one of the most successful and intriguing.

'It's the repetition and the interest in merging business and art along the lines of mass production—that so echo Warhol. Yes, the scrumptious Californian twins in the Sweet Valley High series are going to be adapted into a film, directed by Diablo Cody, the same lady who brought you Juno. 'That is exactly what Universal is doubling down on, in negotiations to pick up the rights to the long-running book series, with Cody attached to adapt.'
