get psyched for Hatch! at Stein club Thursday!

There will be some collaborative art pieces at Stein Club on Thursday, so if you want to contribute to Hatch, but don't have time to submit work on your own, please stop by, have a beer and get creative!

Portrait Wall: (remember your pre-school shadow portrait? well, same idea except Kirkland is making it awesome with a giant canvas, paint and numerous subjects...you!) Come ready to get drawn or trace someone else.

Bricks: What do the Kirkland House bricks see and hear that we don't? What stories would they tell? In the spirit of postsecret , Kirkland will be accepting 'bricks' that tell our own secret Kirkland narrative. You can pick up a blank 'brick' any time in the dining hall.(starting on sunday night). Please paint or color or fill in (photos, pen, coffee stain, whatever) the brick side, and write your secret Kirkland story on the back. The idea is that by allowing anonymous Kirkland narratives, we might see a different perspective of Kirkland life than the dining hall narrative we are so used to.

When you finish, return the brick to the 'brick box' in the d-hall. You will also be able to do this at Stein Club on Thursday.

xoxo

cool art installation

'As you have hopefully noticed, someone has been building something in front of Matthews Hall over the past several days. That was us - Native Americans at Harvard college and our friends from the Aquinnah Wampanoag Nation. We have been hard at work building a wetu (pronounced "we - two"), a traditional home of the Wampanoag people.'

Native Americans at Harvard College would like to cordially invite you to attend our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Harvard Yard Wetu Tomorrow, Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 3:30PM.

graffiti art sunday TODAY in dining hall

This is sort of like the game exquisite corpse (where one finishes another's drawing)

In the dining hall there will be a large piece of cardboard, and next to it will be a bunch of tools to draw and paint and write with:

please feel free to go to town on this piece, spend as much time as you want, or just stop by and tag it

This will be going on all day from brunch to dinner, so if you want to stop by in between eats, please do!

THERE ARE NO RULES OR THEMES, just draw and write whatever you feel the piece needs.

I'm hoping Kirkland makes this awesome and we can put it in the art show!

happy sunday :)

25 art inspirations for the Kirkland art show

1. a portrait of your roommates closet, a visual inventory of their shoes

2. get a pencil and a sheet of paper. play your favorite song. the rule is you have to draw the song without lifting up the pencil.

3. take a sheet of paper and sit outside in the courtyard at hourly intervals. document the things you see and hear, whatever comes to mind...then chart everything on a time line using drawing, words or found objects.

4. take a photo

5. try to imagine yourself in a different life, what would you be doing? write about it

6. confess something

7. visit this website for instant art prompts: random art prompt generator

8. make a mark every time you breath in and out. do this for 5 minutes without stopping...try to relax. (amazing friend and artist alejandro)

9. sculpt a miniature home out of things found in the dining hall

10. look at this. and this. and this. now paint whatever it makes you think of.

11. find a statistician and ask her how to measure creativity. draw. repeat.

12. find a writer and ask him how to measure time. paint.

13. ask Bob what he wants you to draw... it will probably be him. draw Bob.

14. Ask Mariana what she wants you to draw... it will probably be a shark. draw a shark.

15. make a video about your greatest fear.

16. collaborate.

17. make something using only found objects from a certain favorite place.

18. get your camera. go to the river. dance.

23. visit this site for some love

24. go to the coop and look at art books (wall, 10,000 years of art, 10x10, mcCurry, landart)
